BANNED BOOKS, OCT. 8TH AND NO KINGS, OCT. 17TH

October 8
Banned Books Talk
With the blessing of the CDEI and Canton library, the First Parish UU-Canton, a Neponset River UU Community, is delighted to host a talk during National Banned Books week entitled "Banning Books In Our Time" on Thursday, Oct. 8th, from 7-8PM. The featured speaker will be Matt Amory, Librarian for Information Technology. He will speak about the current state of banned and challenged books in the context of the value of free and open access to information. Matt is a member of the Massachusetts Library Association Intellectual and Social Responsibilities Committee. The American Library Association’s Banned Books Week runs from 04- to 10-Oct-2026. Banned Book Week was launched in 1982. It is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read.

October 17
Solidarity Witness
First Parish UU-Canton, a Neponset River UU Community, will host their next peaceful solidarity witness on Saturday, October 17th from 1-2PM on their front lawn in solidarity with the next "No Kings Day" national call to engage in early voting and get out the vote.  Bring your own chairs as needed and signs reflecting peaceful witness to the values of democracy and justice (we do have several extra signs now). All signs and attire need to be family friendly rated G.  We'll also be collecting nonperishable food donations for our Canton Helpline Food Pantry (current high need items are cereals, box pasta, pasta sauce in jars, as well as tuna fish (white), soups, baked beans). Please park only at FPUU or along Parish Road, not on adjacent properties.
